Bourg-en-Bresse (IPA: [buʁkɑ̃bʁɛs]; Bôrg in Arpitan language) is a commune in eastern France, capital of the Ain department, and was capital of the former province of Bresse (Brêsse). It is located 36 km (22 mi) north-northeast of Lyon. The population of the city and suburbs is 57,198, and the population of the metropolitan area is 101,016. The inhabitants of Bourg-en-Bresse are known as Burgiens or Burgiennes.
